Writing the Mental Health Barz (w/Ebony Stewart)
Writing the Mental Health Barz is for people who write about personal things and want to engage with their art in a way that’s healing and not retraumatizing or harmful.
In this workshop, we will explore mental health practices that help us to carefully unpack, challenge, and reflect on a constructive personal narrative in our writing. In the discussion portion, we will explore the impact of creating concrete heart-work; that which is healed and healing by taking up space, being vulnerable, and generative. We will use the explorations of mental health, lineage, and art to create new works with tangible elements of interpersonal, social, and emotional frameworks to aid in authentic, aware, and honest writing.
Participants can expect to and feel seen, heard, and believed, as well as be given or receive feedback for future revisions.
Ebony Stewart is the author of poetry collections BloodFresh and Home.Girl.Hood.
