Risk, Restriction, Rebellion (w/ Porsha Olayiwola)
During this six-week course, participants will lean into poetic risk-taking, ‘formal’ restriction and creation via rebellion. This course uses a collage of poets, craft talks and writing assignments to explore what happens to our writing when we take leaps, when we confine, and when we rub up against the poetic tradition our canon is built upon.
The course is divided into themes of risk, restriction and rebellion and as the course progresses, we will practice each theme as it relates to our own writing. This course questions who we are, poetically, what drives our imagination, who informs our poetic tradition, and asks how will we carve our own unique voice into the bedrock of an enormous literary tradition.
