When does violence get stitched in the skin? What forces make prey of femme bodies? Hailey M. Tran dissects patriarchal culture inside and out, digging their hands into the messy insides of gendered violences.
Tran’s chapbook, an everyday occurrence, is raw and biting. Layered with conversations on gender, disability, and race, Tran reflects on existing in a femme body with wit and sharp honesty. These poems break the body down from varying voices—the media, the corporate environment, social scenes, and cultural spaces. an everyday occurrence is an autopsy of the systems that perpetuate violence against women and femmes, from objectification to the continued harassment and assault of femme bodies.
